What is the Nigeria Cultural Parade?

The Nigeria Cultural Day Parade in honor of Nigeria Independence Day will create
fun family friendly and positive atmosphere of cultural awareness through an array of
dances from traditional to tribal, traditional attire, and traditional Nigerian cuisine.

When is the parade?

Saturday, September 28, 2019

What time is the parade?

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Who may attend the parade?

Everyone. This event is open to the public.

Where is the parade located?

The parade begins and ends at the Toyota Center – 1510 Polk Street, Houston, Texas
77002

Where can I park?

There is plenty of easy parking near the parade: street level, surface lots, or
underground parking.

How much does it cost to park?

Cost for parking will vary in downtown. Please adhere to the instructions provided by
any parking lot or metered parking

What about public transportation to the parade?

METRO is available for your transportation needs. For information on routes and
schedules, please contact METRO at 713.635.4000 or visit https://www.ridemetro.org

Is there a festival that takes place at the parade site?

Yes. The Nigeria Cultural & Arts Festival will showcase a marketplace, Nigerian cuisine
and special performances presented by the Nigerian community.

Where is the festival located?

Root Memorial Square Park at 1400 Clay, Houston, Texas 77002

Where is the EMS located at the parade and festival?

EMS will be in various areas around the parade site or you may ask a parade staff
representative with a radio for assistance with an emergency. Please see the parade
route map for exact locations.

What the parade and festival cost?

The parade and festival are both FREE!

Can I use my credit or debit card to purchase food at the festival?

Most vendors will take credit or debit cards. However, feel free to bring cash with
you, just in case.

What is allowed on site?

You may bring lawn chairs and your festive spirit!

What should I wear to the parade?

We encourage you to wear cultural wear to join the festivities of the day. Remember,
rain or shine, so have your raincoat handy!

Can I bring strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs?

Yes. All areas of the parade and festival are accessible for strollers, wagons, and
wheelchairs.

How much does it cost to register my group?

Early Bird rate is $50 for a Non-Profit and $150 for a Business. NOTE: this rate ends June 1st. The Regular rate is $75 for a Non-Profit Organization and $200 for a Business.

What time is check in for groups on the day of the parade?

ALL parade participants should arrive for parade check-in and registration, at 7:45 AM. Registration and check-in will end approximately at 9:00 am.

How long is the parade route?

Route is 1 mile.

What are the requirements and limitations of vehicle or a float?

Can participants distribute marketing items along the parade route?

Please contact parade organizers at info@culturallynaija.com to receive approval
to distribute any items

Can high school organizations such as bands participate?

Yes. All fees will be waived for any participating high school organizations.

What items do parade participants need to bring?

Parade participants are required to provide all materials and equipment needed to
complement their participation. This includes but not limited to music, sound system,
microphone, costumes, vehicles, and/or any instruments.

How can I become a volunteer?

What is required of a volunteer?

Attend the volunteer meetings and review the volunteer guidelines.

Where do volunteers park?

There will be a specific lot open to Volunteers and Parade Participants to park before
the start of the parade. The parking fee is normally $5 but is subject to change.
However, the lot will NOT be accessible after 9:00 AM. Anyone arriving after 9:00 AM will
need to find parking along the parade route and adhere to any instructions associated
with parking lots and/or metered parking

When and where is the Parade Volunteer Orientation Meeting?

The Volunteers Meeting dates is listed under the section “Participants” under
Meetings at www.nigeriaculturalparade.com/participants. It will be held at United Way
Community Resource Center - Room AB, 50 Waugh Drive, Houston.
