VISION

Nigerians are the single largest contemporary African immigrant group in the United States. In addition, the city of Houston is home to the highest population of Nigerians outside of the country. A parade led by Culturally Naija and WeLEAD, celebrating Nigeria’s 57th Independence, will serve to promote, and advance the Cultural, Civic, Social, and Economic Welfare of Nigerians. The Nigeria Cultural Day Parade in honor of Nigeria Independence Day is expected to attract spectators from across many demographics and cultural backgrounds, while featuring participants from across the greater Houston Metropolitan area. The parade will create a positive atmosphere of cultural awareness and promote tourism to the Houston community regardless of their ethnic and religious backgrounds by highlighting the positive contributions of Nigerians.

GOALS

The key objectives that will result from the Nigeria Cultural Parade will consist of fostering community pride by providing a recreation and socialization activity. In addition, it will create an environment of learning new things. Through a joint effort between Culturally Naija and WeLEAD, a Special Purpose Vehicle will be created to support and empower millennials that have an entrepreneurial spirit that will impact globally rather it be through science, technology, engineering or mathematics. In the long term, this fund will allow scholarships to be awarded to attend selective learning camps for various ages and offer partial scholarships for university level students. The reality of the next generation…is to become something greater because it exists in all of us! We want to support their tenacity through empowerment programs and orchestrate the necessary connections for them to expand their paradigms of the world. Development in a community is better supported when the people are empowered and connected to one another.
